I must admit that for some time, I’ve been anticipating the experience of seeing my work in a thrift store / jumble sale, and wondering how to prepare myself for this. But this weekend it actully happened: I got an email from Steve Basile, who had spotted one of my Mountain Garden screenprints that I made in an edition of 20 way back in 2008, using three of my papercuts. (see the original here).
The amazing part is that Steve spotted this in a thrift store in Minneapolis, recognised it as my work, and took the time to take a photo and to send it back to me.
So yes, my work is at the stage of ending up in thrift stores, but the fact that it was found somewhere so far away from Cape Town, and that it was spotted by someone who actually recognised it and took the time to send me this snap, all makes it all a rather fabulous experience rather than an upsetting one.
So here’s to Steve! Thanks for sending me the photo, and also for softening the blow of my first Skinny laMinx thrift store sighting. I think we can call this something of a milestone event ![🙂]()
